If Paul McCartney was getting his start today, he might sound something like James McCartney. Macca’s son, 34, makes music that reflects a contemporary indie-rock influence, as well as an appreciation for the classics.
McCartney’s first full-length, The Complete EP Collection, produced by David Kahne and Paul McCartney, shows off his impressive chops, as well as his affinity for Neil Young — the album, due tomorrow, features a cover of Young’s “Old Man.” Buy it here.
“I really wanted to wait until I had the strongest possible collection of songs before introducing them to the world,” says McCartney. “I so believe in this music, and these songs. With the two digital EPs being released earlier this year and now this special two-disc set arriving, I’m right where I’ve hoped I would be.”
So what axes does McCartney use to stimulate his muse? In this exclusive list, the “Angel” singer shares his go-to instruments.
Fender Stratocaster
Jaguar/Mustang
Les Paul (Deluxe)
Rickenbacker
Martin D28
Martin 3/4 acoustic
