Stella McCartney has won the best International Designer award at the ELLE Style Awards. And, as is only befitting an international superstar, it was Kate Hudson, one of Stella’s biggest celebrity fans, who stepped up to present her with it.
Success just keeps being redefined by the London designer, who has been on the fashion scene for almost 20 years and whose brand – which is owned by PPR, the luxury group who recently acquired her fellow Brit visionary and ELLE Style Award winner Christopher Kane – encompasses ready-to-wear, fragrance, skincare, lingerie and childrenswear.
‘We're celebrating 2012 and if the year belonged to anyone it was Stella,’ says ELLE fashion features director Rebecca Lowthorpe. ‘Of course, there was the mere matter of kitting out the British Olympic team, but on a fashion level her collections really soared and she served up some of the most inspiring and influential clothes of the year.’
She also scored a double win at the British Fashion Awards in December (Designer of the Year and the Designer Brand awards, since you ask), and even made the New Year’s Honours list with an OBE.
With this year’s Comic Relief campaign and now, an ELLE Style Awards already under her well-appointed belt, it’s shaping up to be yet another stellar year already.
