Sir Paul McCartney makes surprise appearance at Coachella Music Festival

The former Beatle amazes revellers at the 2011 Coachella Music Festival by joining house music star Afrojack in the DJ booth.

Sir Paul McCartney, 68, appeared on stage alongside rap artist Usher during a set by the Dutch house DJ at the weekend.

The pair, neither of whom were performing at the California music festival, then held a dance-off in front of thousands of clubbers as McCartney's girlfriend Nancy Shevell looked on.

A host of other celebrities, including Rhianna, Katy Perry, Kelly Osborne and Paris Hilton also attended the festival, which was headlined by Kings Of Leon, Arcade Fire and Kanye West.

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY is still putting most fellas half his age to shame.

The BEATLES legend left revellers at the Coachella festival totally gobsmacked this weekend when he joined AFROJACK on stage.
Macca tore it up at the Dutch house DJ's gig when he popped into the booth to spin some tunes.

He jetted in to the California event on Friday by private plane with his missus NANCY SHEVELL and made a beeline for the dance tent.

USHER later joined Macca and the two had a dance-off on huge screens in front of thousands of clubbers.

They should give Macca a guest slot in the new Zoolander film.
A source said: "It was a weird and once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"Macca popped up in Afrojack's set and was having it on stage behind the DJ booth, Nancy was standing next to him like a typical house DJ's girl.

"I think a lot of the ravers thought they were seeing things - when word spread around the site, everyone thought it was a wind-up."

The couple showed their sensible side after the sweaty rave by celebrating with a veggie burger before heading home.

Tofu should market itself as the new Red Bull after it saw them through their Hard Day's Night.

Macca might have been the biggest name there, but there was no shortage of A-listers in the crowds at the annual desert bash - KATY PERRY, RIHANNA, VANESSA HUDGENS and DOMINIC MONAGHAN all turned up.

Tempers flared in the VIP area though when heirhead PARIS HILTON tried to jump the bar queue, forcing actress KATE BOSWORTH to step in.
A source said: "It was vicious, Kate was furious when Paris tried to get to the front. Both of them needed to cool off - but that's not that easy in the desert."

VANESSA HUDGENS was flashing some flesh in denim shorts and a hippy chick top.

And 17-year-old TALLULAH WILLIS, youngest daughter of BRUCE and ex-wife DEMI MOORE, was spotted lighting up at the festival.
CEE LO GREEN was another star with ruffled feathers when he was forced to shorten his set after turning up 25 minutes late.

The singer got the crowd to put their middle fingers up to festival organisers during his hit F*** You when they threatened to pull the plug on his performance.

It was a great year for Brits - MAGNETIC MAN, HURTS, MUMFORD & SONS, PLAN B, TINIE TEMPAH and ELLIE GOULDING were among the acts performing at the festival.

There was no sign of the CHUCKLE BROTHERS though.
