More awards for Paul: SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY TO BE NAMED SONGWRITER'S SONGWRITER AT NME AWARDS

17th February 2014, 18:31

Paul McCartney is to be honoured with a special one-off award, the 'Songwriter's Songwriter', at this year's NME awards.
"We've spoken to the biggest and best musicians around, and they've told us: Paul McCartney is the world's ultimate songwriter," NME editor Mike Williams said. "Paul's enduring and stunning talent is worth celebrating, and I'm incredibly honoured that NME are giving him the special, one-of-its-kind Songwriter's Songwriter award to recognise that."

Meanwhile, Belle & Sebastian have been announced as the recipients of the Teenage Cancer Trust Outstanding Contribution To Music Award, and will perform at the event.

"We've just kept our head down," Belle & Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch said. "We're the Status Quo of indie, we're still here - maybe that's the thing. We're a baroque pop band that came up in the mid-90s, during Britpop, and we're still here!"

This year's NME Awards take place at O2 Academy Brixton next Wednesday, 26 February.

Arctic Monkeys lead the nominations this year with an outstanding eight.  Haim follow closely with six nominations whilst Queens of The Stone Age, Lily Allen and Arcade Fire all have three.
