Stella McCartney’s show ran 30 minutes late today, held up by the late arrival of the designer’s father, Sir Paul McCartney (fathers, especially former members of The Beatles, are afforded such privileges).
But few seemed concerned by the delay: pre-show, whoops of cheering could be heard from backstage (for reasons unknown), and the waiting media seemed relaxed in their seats. Perhaps given the magnificence of the venue (the Paris Opera House) there were other things to appreciate, not least the coffee offered on entry.
Collection-wise, McCartney ticked all the trend boxes for this season — oversized, mannish silhouettes, pinstripe suiting, a plaid print, and, well, some kind of ugly shoes. That’s not to say the look wasn’t very cool, we’re just not so sure about those romper-stomper boots (though they did give the suiting a 90s edge).
Footwear aside, the silhouettes were great and we loved the way the knitwear was layered. McCartney, who seems fanatical about layering, always offers something strong for Fall/Winter, and she obviously enjoys the process as well: she took a bow post show with her kids and and was beaming.
The daily Beast.
