STELLA MCCARTNEY has been named as the new patron of Designer for Tomorrow - a competition for emerging designers based in Germany. The British designer succeeds Marc Jacobs in taking up the role, who served as the initiative's first high-profile ambassador for the past two years.

The Designer for Tomorrow (DFT) contest, sponsored by German retailer Peek & Cloppenburg, has been held every year during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin since 2009. McCartney will help to review the applications submitted from emerging designers throughout Europe, before shortlisting her top 10, reportsWWD.

McCartney will view the finalists' collections in May with the rest of the DFT jury, and the winner will be announced during Berlin Fashion Week in July.
